Tennessee has fallen on hard times in the world of college football, and is looking to a new coach to restore the program's luster. The Vols finished 7-6 in 2009 with Lane Kiffin at the helm, who was a coach many saw as more style than substance. His replacement, Derek Dooley, comes with a pedigree that demands respect and so far other coaches in the SEC have been impressed.

Derek Dooley's pedigree

Dooley is the son of legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley, and he is a former assistant of Alabama coach Nick Saban when Saban was at LSU and with the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Dooley's only head coaching experience has been at Louisiana Tech where he did not have that great of a record. Still, Dooley seems to be more about substance than style, and that is sitting well with Vol fans and other coaches in the SEC.

Derek Dooley welcomed into SEC

When kicking off Media Days prior to the 2010 season, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive noted that the previous Tennessee coach had "gone back to his western roots." and added "I want to welcome Coach Dooley back to the SEC. And when I say 'welcome,' I mean welcome."
