Math games are a fun way to practice and reinforce math skills. They can be used during classroom free-time. They are also great for homeschooling, tutoring or family time. Children with short attention spans (especially ADHD sufferers) appreciate a game-break. Playing with cards, dice and board games allow children learning opportunities, without pencil and paper activities.
Board Games: Fun Math Activities
Commercial games like Monopoly and Life help students get comfortable and competent with money. It is great to have the student assume the role of the banker. If he isn't the banker, however, at least make him figure out what bills or coins to use and calculate the change required.
Math studies show that linear board games improve a child's numerical skills and future mathematical learning. Buy or make a game like Snakes and Ladders that have children going from 1 to 100 in a linear fashion. When children are confused about which direction they need to move, encourage them to examine the numbers and figure it out, independently.
